Note: The Stowe Center’s 19th-century buildings are not ADA accessible, but the Stowe Center has a number of accommodations to assist visitors. Our accommodations include an ASL tour of four rooms that visitors can use on a house tour with a guide or online in place of a visit; this is designed for hearing loss as well as deaf visitors. The first floor of the Stowe House is wheelchair accessible but is unable to accommodate motorized wheelchairs. We do have a wheelchair on site if the visitor is able to move from one chair to another. We also have a virtual tour of the second floor for wheelchair visitors delivered by our staff. This summer, learn social justice history!
The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center will offer free visits to Connecticut kids (18 and under) and one adult caregiver this summer through CT Summer at the Museum.
You will still be required to show proof of Connecticut residency when you arrive at the museum. CT Summer at the Museum is Supported by Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s Office of the Arts in partnership with Connecticut Humanities with funding from the federal American Rescue Plan Act as allocated by the state legislature.
The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center is a proud member of the Museums for All, an initiative of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Through Museums for All, those receiving food assistance (SNAP benefits) can gain reduced admission to the Stowe Center by presenting their EBT card and a photo ID. More than 1,200 museums throughout the United States participate!

Take I-95 South to intersection with I-84. Take I-84 West to Sisson Avenue (Exit 46). Right onto Sisson Avenue. Right onto Farmington Avenue. Right onto Forest Street.
From the South (New Haven, New York City, etc.)
Take I-91 North to the junction with I-84. Take I-84 West to Sisson Avenue (Exit 46) then follow directions from the north.
From the East (Boston, etc.)
Take I-84 West to Sisson Avenue (Exit 46) then follow the directions from the north.
From the West (New York City via I-84, Danbury, etc.)
Take I-84 West to Sisson Avenue (Exit 46) then follow the directions from the north.
Free Parking in the Stowe Center lot on Forest Street. Turn right into the parking lot just past the Harriet Beecher Stowe House.
Public Transportation: On CT Transit take #60 Farmington Ave. bus to Woodland Street (westbound) or to Forest Street, (eastbound).
