Facilitating Conversations on Difficult Topics

June 26, 2017
10 AM - 3 PM
Harriet Beecher Stowe Center

How can museum educators create dialogue-based programming that is meaningful, collaborative, and beneficial for both our institutions and our community? How can we shift from being ‘neutral’ to being active facilitators of conversations on topics that are relevant, perhaps even controversial, to our communities and world?
This day-long workshop will provide strategies for facilitating and managing conversations on difficult topics in your museum.

  • Gain insight from diversity educators
  • Explore social justice topics
  • Experience role playing
  • Discuss the risks and rewards of community conversations

Leave feeling inspired to tackle dialogue-based programming at your museum. Take home practical steps to facilitate conversations at your own institution.
