Library Memberships at the Stowe Center
The Stowe Center partners with libraries to provide library patrons free access to one of Connecticut’s cultural treasures.
Membership supports thought-provoking and inspiring tours and programs for visitors of all ages, bridging the past with the present to connect issues from Harriet Beecher Stowe’s era to those we face today.
For a fee of $200, a Stowe Center Library Membership allows your patrons to receive:
- Free, unlimited admission to seasonally changing tours of the Harriet Beecher Stowe House and gardens for one year. Libraries will receive two (2) membership cards, each admitting people, with no limit to the number of visits.
- Access, by appointment, to the Stowe Center Research Library which includes approximately 180,000 manuscripts as well as 12,000 photographs, 12,000 books, 4,000 pamphlets and 100 scrapbooks on subjects ranging from Stowe and her famous Beecher relatives, abolitionism, suffrage, African American history, religion, Hartford architectural history and other related topics. Please email Cat White, Director of Historic Collections & Research, at cwhite@stowecenter.org for appointment requests.

Our patrons make very good use of the library passes for the Stowe Center for Literary Activism. The passes grant our patrons free unlimited admission to the Stowe Center, an incredible value and savings that is much appreciated in the current economic climate. The proximity to Avon also contributes to the frequency with which the passes are utilized, providing an opportunity for a fun and educational day trip. Using the passes has proven to be easy and efficient for our patrons, and the renewal process for library staff is very streamlined.
