“Sources are… instances of inclusion, the other face of which is, of course, what is excluded” Michel-Rolph Trouillot, Silencing the Past

My background is 19th century U.S. history and museum studies. I have worked in many areas of museums and archives and am passionate about the ways that historic collections connect people with history in tangible ways. I am happiest talking to researchers of all stripes about history and the projects they care about. On my best days, you’ll find me in the archives deepening my understanding of the remarkable material that we hold and working to make those materials available for researchers.

When I think about the Stowe Center, I envision an organization that thinks concretely about diversity and inclusion in the programs and collections, developing everything we do from a decolonization starting point. I see a place that questions the traditional historical narratives that have been created. I see a place that always strives to broaden the perspective. And I see a place that uses history, built on the historic collections we hold, to better understand our world today.
