Garden volunteers needed. No experience necessary | March – October

Harriet’s Backyard is a community effort.

Volunteers provided significant support in creating the new gardens, with additional planting assistance from the Green Apprentices of KNOX Hartford. Designers, artists, craftspeople, donors, neighbors, and community partners have all contributed to the evolving landscape.

The garden behind the Stowe House was supported by a grant from an anonymous donor and designed by Claudia Dinep of Outside Landscape.

The Day House garden and its furnishings were supported by a Love Your Block grant, administered by the City of Hartford in collaboration with Hartford Gives. Its custom wooden arbors were created by Hartford-based Fresh Start Works.

The work of caring for this landscape continues through the seasons.
